Crotalus willardi obscurus

The rarest rattlesnake in the United States? Possibly. I've been fortunate enough to see a few of these guys over the years.

While herping with a large group including York, Derek, Chip and Matt, I dropped down the hillside as the sun was making its appearance in the morning and was buzzed by this big old, scarred male. Hidalgo County, NM. August 2008.

The next year, we had just caught up with each other and separated to continue searching when York found this cute little guy. Hidalgo County, NM. September 2009.
The third snake was found by Melina while I was standing about 20 feet away. Hidalgo County, NM. August 2011.
