Desert Kingsnake
Lampropeltis splendida
I saw something funny up on the road one drizzly evening. I could not tell what it was exactly except maybe a DOR that was run over and had the posterior half rolled over exposing a bright belly. It wasn't. Instead, it was this adult splendida feeding on a DOR scute (there were several DOR scutes on the road that night). The snake eventually regurgitated the scute as it was too big for the kingsnake to swallow. Cochise County, AZ. July 2004.
